David Whiting
David was born in London, Ontario in 1963 and grew up in Sarnia. At the age of eight, as he awaited surgery at Toronto’s Sick Children’s Hospital, he became bored and scared. He started to draw. A teacher recognized David’s talent and encouraged him to take art classes. He has been drawing and painting ever since. David studied art at Lambton College for seven years. He takes his inspiration from “popular culture”, including soap operas, TV shows and advertising. David joined ArtWorks in December 2005 and has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions in Victoria, Vancouver, the USA and Scotland. David says,” Since I have been in ArtWorks I have made lots of friends and many people have told me they want to come and see my art exhibitions.” | SOLO EXHIBITIONS | | 2008 | David's Menagerie, Emily Carr House | | INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITIONS | | 2007 | The International Drawing Show, Glasgow, Scotland | | SELECTED GROUP EXHIBITIONS | | 2010 | Look Regional Art Exhibition, Bay Centre | | | Saanich Celebration of the Arts, Open Studio & Exhibition, Garth Homer Society | | | | | 2009 | Carole James Constituency Office | | | Luminara Festival | | | Moss Street Paint In, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria | | | The Pink Show, Karin Koerner Gallery | | | Cedar Hill Café Gallery | | | Emily Carr Library | | | Saanich Celebration of the Arts, Karin Koerner Gallery | | | | | 2008 | ArtWorks Holiday Art Show, Victoria Community Arts Council Gallery | | | | | 2007 | Smallville, Garth Homer Society | | | Martin Batchelor Gallery | | | Art on Roslyn | | | Hearts on Hollywood | | | | | 2006 | Super Heroes, Super and Ancient, Garth Homer Society | | | Group Exhibit, Martin Batchelor Gallery | | | Public Collections Sarnia Family YMCA | | | |
