Community Access Team

The best way to feel as though you are a vital part of your community is to volunteer and that is why the Community Access Team (CAT) works to support 24 clients in more than 25 volunteer positions throughout Victoria.

CAT clients spend most of the week out in the community.  In teams of three, supported by a staff member, they fan out to places like Oak Bay Kiwanis Pavillion, Glendale Gardens and the James Bay Community Centre to volunteer, doing everything from washing flower pots to serving tea to seniors.

The clients who are part of the CAT team want to contribute to their community and enjoy working as part of a team.  They are able to participate in group activities semi-independently and can handle a variety of tasks in fast-paced community based programs.  Whether they're volunteering with seniors, clearing outdoor trails or recycling for Africa, clients gain new skills, confidence and pride in themselves and their communities.

CAT volunteers survey fire damage at Glendale Gardens Mar. 4, 11 - 3:57pm

Laurie, Darren and Tyler head out every Wednesday to Glendale Gardens and Woodlands, volunteering their time to reclaim a section of land from invasive plants, allowing Garry Oak to flourish again. They were saddened by the loss of the main Glendale glass house and toolshed to fire recently. Here are some pictures of their first trip out there since the fire.
