GOVERNANCE Garth Homer Society is incorporated under the Society Act of British Columbia. Membership is open to those over the age of nineteen (19) years and to Honorary Lifetime members. Those interested in membership in the Society may become a member of the Society upon completion of a membership application, payment to the Society of the annual dues, and approval of the Secretary. If you are interested in becoming a Society member, please request an application form at ghsinquiries@garthhomersociety.org, or call 250-475-2270. We encourage everyone to volunteer the time and expertise to become involved in the governance of our Society. It is through the efforts of many dedicated volunteers that we have such a great Society. Please consider sitting on one of our committees. He was the marketing director for national travel organization based in Toronto and then in London as the UK CEO. He has chaired the Glenlyon Norfolk School Society, Glenlyon Norfolk School Foundation, served on the Board of Victoria Civic Heritage Trust and sits on the Board of Brentwood College and The Garth Homer Foundation, He is currently the CEO of a private investment and real estate holding company. Bruce chairs the Garth Society Homer Society. |  | Todd Webber, Past Chair Todd is a past chair of Garth Homer and chartered accountant with Hayes Stewart Little and Company. He has extensive experience in audits and in not-for-profit organizations and has served as the Treasurer of Victoria’s United Way. Todd is a dedicated, long term Director of GHS having served 8 years on the board. He is very positive about the current direction of the Society and feels strongly that the Society provides an excellent quality of service to our community. |  | Roger Charles, Director Roger is best known as the Executive Director of the Glendale Gardens and Woodlands at the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific which organizes the hugely successful “Arts & Music Festival”. He has an extensive background in management, market research and marketing with non-profit organizations on a national and international level. |  | Steve Koerner, Director Steve grew up in Victoria, graduated from the University of Victoria and completed graduate studies in England. In the recent past he was a history lecturer at Camosun College, Malaspina University College and the University of Victoria. Now Steve is an independent writer and researcher. |  | Stephen Newton, Secretary Steve has recently retired from a long and successful teaching career and he will bring to the board a wealth of experience in the fields of education and related areas of special education, educational psychology & behavioral disorders. In addition to his having been an instructor at Camosun College and UVIC, he has also sat on the Board of St Margaret’s School, covering Governance and Communications and amongst some other volunteer positions, he is a member of the Prospect Lake and District Community Association and currently serves as a Community Advisor to the Victoria Foundation. Stephen is currently the Society’s Secretary. |  | Catherine Lord, Director Catherine has more than 25 years experience in the emerging use of information technology. Her current research includes "cloud computing" and global workforce shifts in her role as a strategist for IBM, reflecting her passion for creating cultural bridges and diversity in the "changing nature of work". Catherine is also a Board member of Haven Foundation on Gabriola Island, B.C. Catherine chairs the Strategic Transition Committee. |  | Russell Lazaruk. Director Russ Lazaruk is a Certified Investment Manager (CIM) and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) and is the Branch Manager and an Associate Director at Macquarie Private Wealth, Victoria. Previously Mr. Lazaruk was an Investment Executive for ScotiaMcLeod (Victoria) and Branch Manager/Investment Executive at ScotiaMcLeod (Courtenay). He has worked in BC’s forest industry and operated a family farm on Saltspring Island, also serving in the British Army (1973-1978). Non-profit organizations that have benefited from Mr. Lazaruk’s expertise include the Greater Victoria Public Library (Trustee), Pacific Tattoo 2012 and Greater Victoria Art Gallery. He is currently a member of the Board of Governors of Camosun College, Treasurer of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards (BC & Yukon) and a Rotarian (President, Colwood), and is a keen sailor, rugby player and bike rider. |  | Alan Moyes, Vice Chair, Treasurer Alan recently retired after more than 25 years working for the BC Government, primarily in the Ministry of Health. Originally trained as a lawyer, Alan was in private practice for 3 years before returning to school to obtain his Master of Public Administration. Alan is a native Victorian with experience as a member of both community and regulatory boards. Alan is the Vice Chair and Treasurer of the Society. |
