Clients' Challenges
Clients in the DREAMS team may face many challenges throughout their day and a variety of diagnosed conditions are present. One of our ladies has a condition called Rett’s Syndrome. Rett’s is characterized by normal early growth and development followed by a slowing of development, loss of purposeful use of the hands, distinctive hand movements, slowed brain and head growth, problems with walking, seizures, and intellectual disability. Cerebral Palsy is another condition that affects clients we support. Characteristics of Cerebral Palsy include; lack of coordination, spasticity, muscle tightness or spasm, involuntary movement, different walking patterns, speech impairment, difficulty with gross & fine motor skills, abnormal perception & sensation. Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome is a condition with which one of our ladies lives. This syndrome is quite rare. The major features of this disorder include a characteristic facial appearance, delayed growth and development, intellectual disability, and seizures. Past and present clients have also experienced Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Autism/Aspergers Syndrome.
