The BIG Picture
Twelve artists from the ArtWorks program have been working over the summer to create large scale work for this exhibition. They each have developed their own subject and been challenged by creating the “big picture.” Ashley says, “ It feels very freeing to paint large.” Tanya explains, “For some people it’s new to paint big. I’m working on a diptych that’s 4’ x 4’. Our new studio gives us a chance to create on a larger scale.” The exhibition showcases a variety of subjects and media. Highlights from the show include work by new ArtWorks artist, Cara Johnson who was inspired by her favourite artists Mary Todd- Beam & Lawren Harris to create a fusion of abstract and organic imagery. David Whiting has taken on the Mona Lisa and is trying to “think and paint like Leonardo “. Greg Robertson’s work takes inspiration from an IMAX film about whales and orcas and Phil Davis is exploring new methods of using acrylic paint on his Japanese inspired theme. The BIG Picture opens Thursday, October 14, 2010 from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Regular Gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. or by appointment (250-475-2270),
