In Memoriam - Douglas Hand

Loved by all – a gentle man, a friend, an artist.

Douglas Hand was born January 19, 1933 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. He was a member of the ArtWorks program since 1991. Doug often worked from memory, creating images of friends and places where he lived. His imaginative skills are reflected in his whimsical landscapes, still life and portraits. Doug stated, “I paint a sun in my work as a reminder of the goodness in life and to give myself permission to be happy.”

Doug created amazing art that demonstrated his love and commitment to his artistic practice. Doug’s friends at the Garth Homer Centre, collectors of his work from around the world and his family continue to enjoy the happiness he leaves behind in his art.

In appreciation for Doug's time in ArtWorks a family member's donation made this website possible so the work of all the artists could be made available for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks to everyone who supported and encouraged Doug in his goal to be an artist.
