WORKPLACE INNOVATION FOR TRAINING PROGRAM

| A $7100 grant from Vancity will allow the Customized Employment Pilot Program to train and support staff to work with clients who have complex developmental disabilities to assess their strengths and support needs and match them to tasks that suit the needs of an employer. | | | | | Customized Employment is a new approach to finding jobs for people with developmental disabilties that negotiates with an employer to create a job that has tasks suited to the client's abilities. A grant of more than $3200 from United Way of Greater Victoria will provide training for GHS staff in Customized Employment. Garth Homer Society will be the first agency to receive such training and will be sharing the newfound expertise with other agencies and caregivers. | | | | | | | | | |  | TD Friends of the Environment Foundation grant will help GHS clients who volunteer clearing invasive species and planting native species to educate the public their work at Glendale Gardens and what plants people should and should not plant in their own gardens. | | | | | | | | | | | Thrifty Foods is sponsoring the Thrifty Foods Nutrition Program providing food for all programs where cooking is an activity. Pilot Program
(WTIP) | | The Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development has established a new initiative, the Workplace Training for Innovation Pilot Program (WTIP). The program is designed to provide funding to eligible employers with less than 50 staff for the employee training of their choice, delivered by the training provider of their choice. Through WTIP, employers decide on the training and the training provider best suited to assist them to improve productivity, enhance competitiveness, and/or introduce new technology, equipment, or work processes. There are hundreds of training options available across the province for employers to choose from, including colleges or private training institutions. The Garth Homer Society received $4961 from WTIP to train staff in customized employment strategies for clients.
