THE MISSION OF THE GARTH HOMER SOCIETY IS TO CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDEPENDENCE, GROWTH AND PARTICIPATION IN THE COMMUNITY WITH PEOPLE WHO STRIVE TO OVERCOME DEVELOPMENTAL AND PHYSICAL OBSTACLES.

Ashley Haagensen

Ashley was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan in 1986. She joined the ArtWorks Program in January 2008. Ashley says, ”Though I have been in ArtWorks only about 2 years I continually learn new techniques which I put to use when I do my art. I feel a certain peacefulness when I make my art, like yoga for the mind, like oxygen to breathe. Art for me is a feeling of freedom. Some techniques I am in the process of learning are shading, the use of colour for shadows, proportions and blending. I am participating in my very first portrait exhibition with two other artists in June 2010.”

Ashley’s advice to other artists is to “Believe in yourself and keep at it. Never give up, keep trying, ignore those inner thoughts that are negative. One other ingredient needed is patience and determination.  I love being an artist, art is another language and I absolutely love it!”
